MyTherapy alternatives: simpler and stricter options
People leave MyTherapy in two opposite directions: they want less app, or they want a reminder that insists. Almost nobody wants the same thing in a different wrapper, which is why “the best MyTherapy alternative” has no single answer.
MyTherapy is genuinely good and completely free, with no paid tier. It tracks medications, symptoms, measurements and mood, reminds you when a refill is due, and generates a health report you can share with a doctor through a one-time code. If you use those, switching is likely a downgrade.
If you want less app
MyTherapy is a health journal with reminders attached. If you only ever wanted the reminders, the journal is overhead.
Apple Health Medications is free, already installed, and does the medication part without asking you to log a mood. It also has drug interaction warnings in the United States, an Apple Watch app, as-needed doses and PDF export.
PillSeal is narrower still: medications, doses, supply and a dose check-in, and nothing else. No symptoms, no measurements, no reports. That is a deliberate limit rather than a roadmap.
A pill organiser is the smallest answer of all, and for one or two medications on a simple schedule it is hard to beat.
If you want the reminder to insist
MyTherapy reminds you with a notification, and on iOS silent mode and Focus suppress a standard notification unless you have allowed that app through. MyTherapy does not document a way around that.
Apple Health Medications can, with Critical Alerts turned on per medication under Medications, Options. Apple’s documentation says these sound even when a Focus is on or the iPhone is muted. It follows up once, 30 minutes after a missed dose.
Dosecast describes repeat reminders for missed doses in its free edition, along with snooze, interval-based schedules and a maximum daily dose limit.
PillSeal schedules a real iOS alarm instead of a notification, so it rings by default, and it keeps returning until the dose is confirmed rather than following up once.
If you want to track more, not less
CareClinic goes considerably further than MyTherapy: symptom tracking with body mapping, standardised assessments such as PHQ-9 and GAD-7, nutrition, sleep, cycle and personal health records, plus caregivers and dependants and an Apple Watch app. If MyTherapy felt shallow rather than heavy, this is the direction.
Medisafe sits between the two, with more than 90 measurement trackers, drug interaction warnings and its Medfriend feature for telling someone when a dose is missed.
If you want to leave the phone out of it
Ask your pharmacist about a blister pack, sometimes called a dosette. Every dose pre-packed by day and time, with an obvious visual check of whether it was taken. For someone on several medications it solves more than any app on this page, and it is often free.
Where PillSeal fits
PillSeal is the strict end of this list and the narrow one. It is iPhone only, it costs money after a trial, and it does not track symptoms, produce reports, support as-needed doses or tell anyone else anything. What it does is ring like an alarm until the dose is taken and ask for a camera check-in rather than a tap. If the doubt afterwards is your actual problem, that is the trade it makes. The full comparison with MyTherapy sets it out in detail.

Common questions
What is a simpler alternative to MyTherapy?
Apple Health Medications does the medication part without the health journal, free and already installed. PillSeal is narrower still: doses, supply and a check-in, with no symptom or mood tracking. For one or two medications on a simple schedule, a pill organiser is smaller than any of them.
Is MyTherapy really free?
Yes. MyTherapy says it always has been and always will remain free, funded by working with pharmaceutical and healthcare partners, and that your personal data is never handed to them. There is no paid tier to compare against.
Which alternatives can produce a report for my doctor?
MyTherapy generates one through a one-time code you give your doctor. CareClinic is built around reports and standardised assessments. Apple Health can export your medication list as a PDF. PillSeal cannot do any of this, so if the appointment is the point, it is the wrong tool.
